BERGENFIELD - Authorities say a 48-year-old Bergenfield resident threatened to blow up an elementary school, prompting a lockdown.

Bergenfield police say that Edgar Perez approached a teacher in the parking of Lincoln Elementary School and reportedly told her that he wanted to “blow up the school.” He then apparently walked away.

The teacher reported the incident to officials and the school was placed on lockdown. Officers searched the school, but did not find anything suspicious.

Police were able to identify Perez as the suspect. They were given permission by Perez’s mother to search their home and did not find any dangerous items inside.

Perez was charged with disorderly conduct and terroristic threats. He was taken to Bergen County Jail.
