NORTH BERGEN - Julia Galvan, 59, of North Bergen, was arrested this week for allegedly assaulting a paralyzed nursing home patient. The alleged incident was caught on a nanny cam, and has led to charges against Galvan.

Galvan was a nurse's aide at the Harborage on River Road in North Bergen, and was in charge of caring for Modesta Alvarado, 87. Alvarado's family suspected abuse and placed a nanny cam in her room.

The alleged incident was captured on the nanny cam in January. The family reviewed the tapes and reported it to authorities in February.

Police say Alvarado was struck three or four times in a brief period of time. Alvarado died shortly after the incident, but her death hasn't been connected to the alleged abuse. Galvan has been charged with assault, abandonment and neglect.
