A similar incident took place at the Comfort Suites on Highway 21 at around 3 a.m. on June 19. A man armed with a handgun jumped over the front desk and demanded to be shown where the safe was located.
The suspect then tied up the clerk and robbed the hotel of more than $400, the safe, and an ATM machine. He also stole the hotel's security equipment, taking the surveillance video of the crime along with him.
Police say he could be linked to a dozen other robberies across the state, including one at the Hotel Executive Suites in Carteret on June 14.
Officials say they received a tip about Burnette's whereabouts on Thursday, and eventually located him in a stolen car in the area of Eastern Parkway and Madison Avenue.
Burnette is charged with robbery, criminal restraint, receiving stolen property and several weapons charges.
