NEWARK - Police tell News 12 New Jersey they have arrested a man in connection with two hotel robberies.

Authorities believe Tremone C. Burnette, 42, is responsible for at least two heists in Newark.

An armed man was caught on surveillance video robbing the Fairfield Inn on Highway 1 and 9 just before 3 a.m. on June 15. He stole $1,300 after startling the overnight clerk.

A similar incident took place at the Comfort Suites on Highway 21 at around 3 a.m. on June 19. A man armed with a handgun jumped over the front desk and demanded to be shown where the safe was located.

The suspect then tied up the clerk and robbed the hotel of more than $400, the safe, and an ATM machine. He also stole the hotel's security equipment, taking the surveillance video of the crime along with him.

Police say he could be linked to a dozen other robberies across the state, including one at the Hotel Executive Suites in Carteret on June 14.

Officials say they received a tip about Burnette's whereabouts on Thursday, and eventually located him in a stolen car in the area of Eastern Parkway and Madison Avenue.

Burnette is charged with robbery, criminal restraint, receiving stolen property and several weapons charges.
