LITTLE FALLS - Police say they have made an arrest after a hoax call prompted a large police response to a Little Falls church Thursday morning.

Robert DeYoung, 59, of Paterson, was taken into custody and charged with creating a false public alarm.

Police dispatchers received a call just after 7 a.m. from an unidentified male claiming the reverend at the Second Reformed Church was being held at gunpoint.

Several officers immediately responded to the church and found that the pastor was safe, according to Little Falls police.

The church is located on the corner of Walnut Street and Ridge Avenue, which is next to Little Falls School #1. School officials activated the school's emergency plan and sheltered the children in a safe location until the area was deemed safe. School officials say the move was precautionary; students and faculty were never in jeopardy.

Little Falls Police Department detectives are investigating the 21-second call that prompted the incident. They have identified a suspect, but no arrests have been made.

Cedar Grove police, Totowa police, Fairfield police, Montclair State University police and the New Jersey State Police Teams Unit also responded to the incident.

DeYoung will be arraigned on Tuesday, and the case will be sent to Passaic County Superior Court.
