PATERSON - A man who allegedly killed a woman and wounded three others during a summer shooting in Paterson has been arrested.

Authorities say 21-year-old Kamal “Rico” Edge opened fire near the intersection of East 22nd Street and Park Avenue. He had been wanted in the murder since June.

Paterson police say Edge was spotted in front of a house on Governor Street Saturday, less than a mile from where the shooting took place. When officers surrounded the suspect, he allegedly reached for a loaded gun. He was then tackled by an officer.

A spokesperson for the Paterson Police Department said the officers would have been completely justified in firing their weapons.

“The fact that they didn't shoot and waited until the last possible moment to take this guy down shows their bravery and valor," the spokesperson said.

Police say the suspect’s loaded gun was reported stolen in North Carolina. They also found heroin on him when he was arrested.
