POINT PLEASANT BEACH - Police say a lockdown of all Point Pleasant Beach and Point Pleasant Borough schools was lifted Wednesday.

The schools were locked down as a precautionary measure following an incident involving a suicidal armed man in the area, according to officials. Police say the incident did not involve anything inside the schools and that students were not in any danger.

Investigators say the man was involved in a domestic dispute in Brick early Wednesday morning. He was spotted in Point Pleasant and was reported to have a weapon.

Witnesses say the man walked into Vincino de Mare and sat down for a while, but then looked out the window. Witnesses believe he ran out the door when he spotted police.

The man climbed a ladder onto the roof of a commercial building, which is where investigators found him. The subject was taken to Jersey Shore Medical Center for treatment of what's believed to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Several businesses, including a hardware store and a Stop & Shop near Arnold and Richmond avenues, were also on lockdown.

No one else was hurt during the incident.
