Police activity shuts down Route 27 in Highland Park

HIGHLAND PARK - Police activity shut down Route 27 near the border of Highland Park and Edison earlier today.

The Middlesex County Prosecutors Office and Highland Park Police Chief Stephen Rizco announced that they secured a neighborhood in the borough and were attempting to negotiate the safe surrender of a resident. The suspect has since been apprehended. Authorities say they received a report of an unstable person holed up in a home near the intersection of Route 27 and Woodbridge Avenue. Police and SWAT teams were seen in the parking lot of the Dairy Deluxe.
