NEWARK - Police say two people were killed and another person was injured in a pair of separate shootings in Newark on Friday.

Police say 33-year-old Kareem Jones was shot and killed on Muhammad Ali Avenue at around 2:40 yesterday afternoon.

Then, a man and a woman were shot in the 200-block of South Eighth Street just before 5:30 p.m. The man, identified as 20-year-old Jermaine Gamble, was killed. The woman suffered injuries that are not considered life-threatening.

Witnesses say they saw two men running from the scene of the second shooting with a shotgun and a handgun. Police recovered a shotgun a block away, but are still searching for suspects in the case.

Investigators say they do not believe the two homicides are related.
