Police: 2 injured after truck slams house in Jackson

JACKSON - Police in Jackson are investigating a crash that left two people with minor injuries this morning after a tractor-trailer slammed into a house.

The accident happened along Route 571 near West Veterans Highway at around 5:30 a.m. Police say a U.S. Mail tractor-trailer collided with a white pick-up truck, sending the mail carrier off the road. The truck took down a telephone and a tree, which fell into the home's living room.

The owner of the house, Sal Vigilante, says he was next door in his doughnut shop, and ducked for cover when he heard the crash. Vigilante says this is the second time in eight years a truck has hit his home, but he says the last time only resulted in minimal damage.

"By looking at it, it's probably over a $100,000 in damage," he says. "I really don't know. I mean, the whole house is demolished."

Neither driver was seriously injured. Only one was taken to a local hospital for evaluation.
