TOMS RIVER - Police say one person has died after being hit by a car on Route 37 near the entrance to the Mathis Bridge in Toms River.

Police say this is the fifth accident of the year on the road, and a total of six people have died in three of the crashes.

Police have not yet released the names of the parties involved.

The Ocean County Prosecutor's Office is assisting in the investigation. They say no charges have been filed at this time.
