Pipe bomb rocks North Jersey neighborhood

FAIR LAWN - Authorities say a pipe bomb explosion damaged several homes and vehicles in a northern New Jersey community yesterday.

Bergen County Prosecutor John Molinelli says the small pipe appeared to have contained black powder and small nails.

The pipe fragmented when it exploded at around 11 p.m. Sunday at 18-11 Hunter Place in Fair Lawn. The force sent fragments into the home and two others, and also damaged vehicles. No one was injured.

Residents in the area say they heard a "big bang" and saw a yellow flash after the late night explosion.

Authorities are trying to determine who built and placed the device. Anyone with information is asked to call the Fair Lawn Police Department at 201-796-1400 or the Bergen County Prosecutors Office- Major Crimes Unit at 201-226-5500.
