Beachwood Beach West and Avon Road Beach in Pine Beach Borough are closed due to bacteria in the water.

PINE BEACH BOROUGH - Avon Road Beach in Pine Beach Borough remains closed Thursday due to concerns about the water quality.

High levels of bacteria were found in the water. This often happens after heavy amounts of rain.

Other beaches were previously closed due to concerns, but they were reopened. These were all beaches along the Toms River, not ocean beaches.

The DEP says bacteria in the water tested too high. The bacteria that environmental and health officials are seeing is bacteria found in human and animal waste.

Earlier this week, there was a total of 19 beach advisories up and down Monmouth and Ocean counties for the same reason.
