WEST MILFORD - A West Milford man says he has invented a device designed to replace the traditional plug at the bottom of oil pans that can prevent oil spills.

The Eco-plug is made from rubber, with a magnet that helps it stay in place.

Peter Esposito invented it after seeing oil leaks caused by faulty valve caps, which are screwed in.

"Installers can make a mistake," Esposito says. "They can cross-thread it, they can put it in too tight or not tight enough, where that plug will literally vibrate itself out of the vehicle and leave a consumer stranded."

The Eco-plug is now available in certain Jiffy Lube and Castrol retailers. By February, it will be available in other auto parts stores. It costs between $35 and $40.
