The fire started around 3:40 this afternoon, officials say.

PERTH AMBOY - Perth Amboy fire officials say that the three-alarm blaze that tore through six row homes yesterday is not suspicious.

Firefighters say the fire started at around 3:40 p.m. on the 600-block of West Side Avenue. Officials with the Red Cross confirm that 45 people were displaced from their homes.

The fire destroyed six homes and also caused smoke and water damage to several other nearby residences.

A further inspection today shows that the fire consumed the rear wall of three of the homes.

News 12 New Jersey was told that some of the 11 families impacted by the blaze did not have insurance.
