MONMOUTH COUNTY - News 12 New Jersey has learned that a person of interest in a series of mace attacks in Monmouth County, was killed in a hit-and-run last March.

Jeffery Michel was questioned about the attacks in Colts Neck and Freehold. Investigators say Michel had a strong resemblance to the person in police sketches. Michel was never charged.

Last week, a woman was attacked with pepper spray in a similar manner as the incidents in 2014. Police believe it may have been a copycat.
