Pedestrian James Cox critically injured in Brick Township hit-and-run; police seek driver
BRICK TOWNSHIP - A man is in critical condition after being struck in a hit-and-run in Brick Township Monday night.
James Joseph Cox, 68, was crossing Lanes Mill Road to get to Parkway Pizza at around 5:45 p.m. when a dark red Nissan hit him. A witness says the driver slowed down, then took off, leaving the man lying in the road.
"I actually called 911 for him," says David Vangorden, an employee at Parkway Pizza. "I checked to make sure he was alive, checked to see if he was breathing.”
Police are asking witnesses to come forward. The car is a dark red four-door sedan, possibly a newer Altima or Sentra model, with front-end damage.
