MONMOUTH COUNTY - One of New Jersey's most famous canines is enjoying a well-deserved pampered life after becoming the poster "pooch" for animal abuse.
A law named for Patrick the pit bull was signed by Gov. Chris Christie on Wednesday. It increases first-time animal abuse fines from $1,000 to $3,000. Second offenses could jump to $5,000. Penalties can also include up to 18 months in jail.
Patrick weighed just 19 pounds when he was found at the bottom of a trash chute in March 2011.
