Patience wears thin over Eatontown construction

EATONTOWN - Patience is wearing thin over construction on routes 35 and 36 in Eatontown.

Multiple signs, dozens of orange barrels and cones have been confusing drivers. The $15 million state project to realign and widen Routes 35 and 36 started two years ago.

Drivers are concerned that the traffic will only get worse after Memorial Day since Route 36 is the road that many take to get to beaches, Pier Village in Long Branch and the Monmouth Park Race Track. The state says the project won't be finished until January. It was set to be completed this July.A spokesperson for the DOT says, "Utility lines had to be relocated, and it took time. Unfortunately our contractor had to wait until the utility company did the work." The state says the six-month delay is due to circumstances beyond its control.
