NEWARK - PATH service has resumed after a fire on the tracks resulted in the suspension of service between Newark and the World Trade Center Station in lower Manhattan.

The Hack Bridge, a rail bridge that traverses the Hackensack River in Kearny caught fire Tuesday afternoon.

PATH halted service around 3:30 p.m. while the fire on wooden railroad ties was put out. The structure had to be inspected before service resumed.

Officials say the fire might have been sparked by an electrical problem.

Riders may still experience residual delays.
