PATERSON - Some Paterson residents say they are frustrated by the large amounts of snow still left in the city four days after a major snowstorm.

Tuesday’s winter nor’easter brought about a foot of snow to the city. Paterson schools were closed for three days and opened late Friday.

Resident Yaini Campo says that her daughter is wheelchair-bound after a car accident and they haven’t been able to leave the house due to the amount of snow.

“My daughter has not been able to go to therapy all week because I can't get her out with all this snow,” she says. "If I needed to get her an emergency way out with an ambulance or whatever, there's no way out."

Paterson officials say the city is still working to clean up the snow. Councilwoman Maritza Davila is chair of the Department of Public Works and says that crews have not stopped working to clean up. However, she says that the DPW is 30-40 people short and working with equipment from the 1980s and 1990s.

"We have worked and we have done what we could do with what we have,” Davila says. “I think our DPW crew has done an amazing job with what they had."

Fifth Ward Councilman Luiz Velez says that Passaic County has also not helped clean up county roads around Paterson.

"We have, around my ward, county roads.  If they gave their share, I think we can cooperate and use our trucks on the side streets.  So they need to step up,” Velez says.

Officials also say that despite “No Parking” signs and pleas from the city, many residents refused to move their cars so the streets could be cleaned.

Prospect Park officials did loan Paterson an industrial-sized snowblower called the "SNOGO” Thursday and Friday, which has helped to clear a lot of the snow.
