PATERSON - Some Paterson residents say overgrown trees and piles of trash that are plaguing their neighborhood are New Jersey Transit’s responsibility.

“Transit runs a very big line though our town and they should be more responsible for their property,” says Paterson Councilman Michael Jackson. “They have to be a more responsible neighbor.”

Jackson says residents who have the train tracks close to their property have complained about trash and other debris ending up in their yards. They also say that trees are overgrown, leading to a potentially dangerous condition when stormy weather comes around.

"I want them to respect my property because they are in my property, I’m not in their property,” says resident Monica Piccirillo.

A spokesperson for New Jersey Transit tells News 12 New Jersey that the agency will reach out to Councilman Jackson as soon as possible to address the residents' concerns.
