PATERSON - Pink slips will go out on Monday for police officers in Paterson. The president of the police union says residents will suffer.

The city is set to lay off 159 officers, including patrol officers, lieutenants and sergeants. Police union president Steve Olimpio says those officers account for one-third of the department.

The union chief is meeting with city officials Friday for last-minute discussions.

News 12 New Jersey called the mayor's office for comment, but those calls were not returned.
