PATERSON - The Paterson City Council has proposed an ordinance that aims to curb crime in the city.
The provision would require bars and liquor stores to install surveillance cameras at all entrances and in parking lots.
Supporters say bars and liquor stores are frequent targets for armed robberies, and often harbor pan-handlers and drug dealers.
Some bar owners already have the cameras in place, and many employees and customers say they think the proposal would be a good idea. Others tell News 12 New Jersey that the cameras would be a financial burden.
City Council President Anthony Davis plans to hold a meeting to gather input from business owners before the council votes on the measure.
