Pastor carjacked in Newark

NEWARK - A Newark pastor known for preaching anti-violence had his truck stolen as he opened a church for bible study yesterday afternoon.

Reverend Jethro James was opening up the Paradise Baptist Church at the corner of 15th Avenue and Hunterdon Street when he says two men allegedly pushed him to the ground and took off in his truck.

James says authorities later recovered the truck, but the two men were not found.

The pastor says he hopes to meet with local and state officials about the violence in Newark.

Anyone with information is asked to call Newark Crime Stoppers at 1-877 NWK-TIPS (877 695-8477).
