PATERSON - A man who was passing by a burning home in Paterson made a heroic rescue before firefighters arrived.

The man, who told News 12 New Jersey that he wished to remain anonymous, said that when he saw the burning home on Pacific Street he immediately leaped into action.

“The room to my left side, it was locked. I kicked [the door] down and there was a guy sleeping. I made him go downstairs running,” the good Samaritan said.

The hero then made sure there was no one else on the second and third floors of the home and got everyone else out. He also helped a dog escape from the flames.

Firefighters soon arrived and were able to put out the fire. Two firefighters were hurt. One fell through the floor and another sprained an ankle.

The cause of the fire was not released by officials.
