Passaic shop owner fights back during robbery

PASSAIC - Earlier this week, a man walked into a thrift store on Main Street and proceeded to beat the owner with a hammer. The owner, however, fought back with a machete.

Surveillance footage helped bring the suspect to justice. In the footage, the owner of Maribel's Clothing 2nd Hand is seen bleeding after being beaten, as well as walking out holding a machete in his right hand. The suspect is shown walking right behind the shop owner.

Detectives were able to use that video to identify Elieser Rivera and track him down. Investigators promise they'll do whatever it takes to get justice for the shop owner, who endured the brutal attack.

Rivera is charged with robbery and assault. The shop owner was hospitalized and is recuperating from the attack. His store remains closed.
