Passaic County Jail to stay open

PATERSON - Passaic County's freeholders have decided to scrap plans to ship county jail inmates elsewhere.

The county freeholders have reportedly said the decision was spontaneous and the result of opposition that culminated with a rally yesterday.

Corrections officers, their families and residents flooded the freeholder chamber during the regular meeting. The vote still leaves the fate of the half-century-old jail uncertain.
