HACKENSACK - A piece of the façade on a building on Main Street in Hackensack broke off early this afternoon.

The piece of the building that fell blocked the entrance and forced workers to evacuate. Amin Elchami tells News 12 New Jersey he was seconds away from being struck by falling debris.

Elchami says he had arrived early for an appointment with his lawyer. He was feeding the parking meter only a few feet away from the front door, when a piece of the building fell.

It hasn't been determined if Hurricane Irene is what contributed to the façade collapse or something else. Workers can expect the building to reopen tomorrow.
