PARSIPPANY - Many parents of middle school students in Parsippany say they are relieved to find out the school will be returning to the old way of scheduling classes.

At the beginning of the school year the Parsippany-Troy Hills School District tried a new, automated system to create schedules for the students at the middle school. The new schedules added 10 minutes to classes, but reduced class time for reading, writing, chorus and physical education. It also eliminated recess and limited electives.

Complications with the program caused students to miss classes and even sit in the gym for hours with nothing to do. The acting superintendent admitted that even the faculty was overwhelmed.

Thursday night, school administrators held a meeting for parents and announced that the school would go back to last year's schedule.

Although many of the parents were upset by the schedule glitch, they did praise the way teachers handled the chaos.
