PARK RIDGE - Fans, family and co-stars of the late actor James Gandolfini filled the streets of Park Ridge today to celebrate "James Gandolfini Day."
Gandolfini, who was best known for his role as Tony Soprano on the HBO drama "The Sopranos," grew up in Park Ridge and graduated from high school there.
"There were so many people who had a connection with James; either they grew up or were involved in his philanthropic activities," says Park Ridge Mayor Terry Maguire. He also acknowledged that many felt they knew him through watching his acting.
Town officials dedicated the intersection of Park Avenue and Kinderkamack Road as "James Gandolfini Way." Park Ridge police had to shut down the intersection to accommodate the large crowd of fans and supporters.
Gandolfini's wife, sisters and children were at the ceremony, as were many of his co-stars from "The Sopranos."
