PARAMUS - Officer Rachel Morgan, 31, was shot several times in the line of duty off of Route 17 earlier this month. Officer Morgan is continuing on her path to recovery. Even though officer Morgan doesn't need a blood transfusion, her friends wanted to do something to honor their friend.

Since the incident, there has been an outpouring of support for the Bergen County police officer. The support continued today as a blood drive was held in her honor by the Paramus Volunteer Ambulance Corps.

The shooting happened after Morgan pulled over Michael Carmody, 23, just off Route 17, for speeding and false license plates. Carmody opened fire and officer Morgan and another officer fired back, striking him several times.

Carmody also shot himself in the head and later died from his injuries.

Officer Morgan is expected to make a full recovery.
