Paramus police: Officer Rachel Morgan is fully conscious

PARAMUS - Acting Paramus Police Chief Christopher Brock released a statement this afternoon that said officer Rachel Morgan is "fully conscious, alert and able to communicate by writing."

Chief Brock says one of Morgan's "first written comments to me this morning was, 'Tell me I'm coming back to work.'"

He says she still has a long road to recovery, but "for the first time since Sunday we have a confident belief that she is going to pull through this and return to who she always was, a tough but compassionate cop who thinks about serving others before herself."

Authorities say officer Morgan was shot Sunday by Michael Carmody, 23. Carmody died Wednesday after being taken off life support.
