FREEHOLD - The owner of a well-known diner in Freehold Township says that he will rebuild after a large fire nearly destroyed the building.
The fire started during the dinner rush Tuesday when the diner was packed with customers. Manager Lisa Zayac says that she rushed customers to safety.
“This lady jumps up. She goes running out of the diner with two plates of food. And I'm like, 'where are you going with the plates?" says Zayac.
Dozens of people posted pictures and video clips of the fire on social media. Large columns of smoke and bright flames were seen pouring out of the building.
Firefighters were able to put out the fire after about an hour or so. No one was hurt.
Owner Cupertino Herrera says that he believes the cause of the fire was accidental.
He says that he will try to find work for his 15 employees at the two other restaurants that he owns.
