PERTH AMBOY - The Outerbridge Crossing will be closed during overnight hours for the next three months, causing potential traffic headaches for drivers headed between New Jersey and Staten Island.
The 85-year-old bridge is in need of repairs. The Port Authority is replacing pavement on the bridge, which the agency says will improve traffic safety and driving conditions.
The bridge will be closed in both directions overnights on weekdays from now through October.

Drivers headed into Staten Island will have to use the Goethals Bridge, where the Port Authority is expected to have additional crews to help handle the influx of traffic. The Bayonne Bridge is another option.
Drivers say they understand the bridge needs repairs, but are not happy about the inconvenience.
