PISCATAWAY - A chemical explosion at a perfume factory has sent at least one person to the hospital.

The explosion happened Thursday afternoon at Sozio Inc. on West Ethel Road in Piscataway. According to Piscataway Mayor Brian Wahler, there was a fire inside of a tank while chemicals were being mixed. An employee inside was caught in the blast and had to be taken to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital to be treated for burns to the hands and face.

Several fire departments and the county hazmat team responded to the scene.

Crews will inspect the building for damage and also work to determine how the explosion happened.
