NEW BRUNSWICK - The man wanted for an attack on a female student at the Rutgers University New Brunswick campus has surrendered to authorities.

The Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office announced Saturday that 37-year-old Michael Knight surrendered Saturday morning.

Prosecutors say Knight attacked the female victim near Van Dyke Hall off of College Avenue on May 4. News 12 is told he allegedly struck the victim in the face, severely beat her and tried to sexually assault her.

Knight is charged with aggravated assault, attempted aggravated sexual assault, aggravated sexual contact, kidnapping and endangering his injured victim during the attack.  Officials say he is also charged with terroristic threats for threatening to kill a man who attempted to follow Knight as he fled the scene of the attack.

Knight is being held on $1 million bail.

The victim was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital to be treated for her injuries. She has since been released.

Authorities had released Knight's name and photo on Friday as they searched for him. Officials say Knight surrendered hours after he was charged in the case.
