Officials rally for bond to fund school renovations

NEW BRUNSWICK - Bipartisan supporters of a $750 million bond to fund construction and renovations at New Jersey's colleges and universities came together this morning.Former Gov. Tom Kean, state Assembly Speaker Shelia Oliver and Senate President Steve Sweeney rallied with supporters at Rutgers University in New Brunswick. The bond referendum would be the first push for capital improvements at New Jersey's schools since 1988. Since then, enrollment has mushroomed and the schools have borrowed heavily to accommodate their growing student bodies. If approved, the money would pay solely for programs that improve quality of education at the schools.
