Officials question Brookdale president's perks

FREEHOLD - (AP) - Officials are raising questions about aNew Jersey county college president's perks, including up to$40,000 he receives to send his two children to college.

The Monmouth County Board of Freeholders is demanding givebacksfrom Brookdale Community College President Peter Burnham.

Burnham is paid $216,000 a year. But the college's board oftrustees also provided Burnham with a country club membership, a$1,500 monthly housing allowance, a new vehicle and bonuses duringhis 20-year tenure.

Freehold John Curley told the Asbury Park Press it is an"extravagance at a time and place when there's no room forextravagance."

Burnham says he's not exempt from making fiscal concessions. The trustees will hold a special meeting to review the proposedbudget and discuss significantly reducing a planned 8.2 tuitionincrease on Saturday.
