TOMS RIVER - Floodwaters from Sandy have wiped out roadways in the Toms River area.

The bridge to the Barrier Islands near Route 37 and Fischer Boulevard is virtually impassable. Emergency management officials say they have to make more than 100 rescues to people trapped in their homes. They say residents were told to stay in their attics until help can arrive.

In addition to impassable roads, power is also out in the area, as well as most of the state.
