CLINTON TOWNSHIP - Officials have identified a firefighter who was fatally struck by a vehicle on Route 629 in Clinton Township.

Authorities say Jeffrey Scheuerer, 35, of Raritan Township, was conducting a controlled burn along Route 629 near Round Valley Reservoir. They say heavy smoke may have reduced visibility at the time of the crash.

Scheuerer was a firefighter with the New Jersey State Forest Fire Service.
