Officials: 65 marijuana plants, assault rifles found at man's home

LINDEN - Union County authorities say they discovered 65 marijuana plants as well as a mini-arsenal in a man's house in Linden.

The Union County Prosecutor's Office says it took down the large marijuana-growing operation during a raid last week.

The target of the raid was Jeff Smith, 41, of Linden. The prosecutor says going after him was completely warranted. Authorities say along with the 65 marijuana plants, they recovered heating lamps, thermometers, gardening tools and two assault rifles.

The prosecutor says the SWAT team that entered the house was able to get to Smith before he could get to any weapons.

Authorities were lead to Smith because of a tip through Crime Stoppers. Smith is being held on $500,000 bond at the Union County jail.
