RINGWOOD - Police are on the search for three teens who escaped from a residential facility in Ringwood after allegedly attacking an employee.

The boys were residents of the Green Residential Community Home, a non-secure facility for juvenile offenders. Authorities say the teens attacked a 71-year-old employee in the laundry room just before 8:30 p.m. Sunday and stole the keys to his van.

The boys then allegedly drove off in the van, unaware that the employee's friend, a 29-year-old woman, was asleep in the back seat. They drove the van to Newark, where they supposedly ditched the van and let the woman go. She was not harmed.

Ringwood Police Chief Joseph Walker says he plans on speaking with the people who run the community home.

"I plan on having a meeting with managers of the facility [Tuesday] to discuss what happened, why it happened and I'm going to make sure it doesn't happen again," he says.

The residents housed at Green Residential are all supposed to be non-violent offenders on probation. However, Chief Walker says that if he had his way, the three teens would be charged with robbery, assault and carjacking.

Authorities are currently looking for the teens in Newark.
