Officials: Elderly man killed, 2 others hurt in fire at Union City residence

UNION CITY - An elderly man was killed in an early morning fire that tore through a 34th Street residence in Union City.

Fire officials say it started on the first floor at around 3:30 a.m. and quickly spread to the second.

Miguel Gutierrez, 94, was killed, and his 62-year-old daughter Marcia Masadeh received third-degree burns. Family says she was alert today and in stable condition in the Burn Center at St. Barnabas in Livingston.

Masadeh's husband was left with minor injuries.

Officials say one of the victims was found near the front door.

There is no word yet on what caused the fire.
