Official: Giffords' astronaut husband going to space

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. - (AP) - The astronaut husband of woundedRep. Gabrielle Giffords has made his choice. He's headed to spacein April.

An official close to the space shuttle program confirmed Fridaymorning that astronaut Mark Kelly will be aboard Endeavour for itsfinal flight. The official did not want to be named because theinformation has not yet been made public. Kelly will hold a newsconference at Johnson Space Center in Houston on Friday afternoon.

Kelly took a leave from training after Giffords was gunned downat a Tucson, Ariz., shopping center on Jan. 8. She's undergoingrehab in Houston.

Kelly spent the past month debating whether to step down ascommander of Endeavour's two-week mission. Liftoff is targeted forApril 19.
