Off-duty firefighter rescues 2-year-old in Linden

LINDEN - An off-duty firefighter had an eventful Friday night after coming to the rescue of a 2-year-old girl who almost drowned in her bath tub in Linden.

Lilly Fabrizio's mom says she turned her back for a few seconds, only to find the toddler under water. Thinking that she was choking on something, the girl's mom pulled her out of the tub, banged on her back and tried to do the finger sweep, but nothing worked.

Fabrizio's mom yelled for help from her husband, who ran acorss the street where firefighter Mike Vogel lives. Vogel, who realized the toddler had taken in some water, used back blows to help her cough it up.

Police showed up and Fabrizio was brought to the hospital for a few hours before returning home.
