OCEAN GROVE - Families who spend the summer in a Methodist tent community in Ocean Grove are packing up and heading back to work and school.
The area is a traditional retreat for relaxation and reflection for the warmer months.
The community includes 114 canvas-top tents and 15 cottages are adjacent to the Great Auditorium and run by the Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Association.
Many of the sites have been handed down through generations. Leases run $4,000-$5,000 for the tents and up to $12,000 for the cottages.
The first tents were pitched there in 1869 by Methodist ministers who wanted a meeting place for a spiritual retreat.
