UNITED NATIONS - (AP) - President Barack Obama says there is noshort cut to resolving the decades-old conflict between theIsraelis and the Palestinians.
In a speech to the U.N. General Assembly, Obama expressesfrustration at the failure of both parties to bridge theirdifferences and at the Palestinian leader for planning to seek adeclaration of statehood through the Security Council. The U.S. hassaid it will veto such an effort.
Obama says peace won't come through statements and resolutionsat the U.N., but rather only through a resumption of directnegotiations. He says the parties are the only ones who can agreeon the issues that continue to divide them.
Obama planned separate meetings after the speech with theIsraeli and Palestinian leaders.
