TRENTON - (AP) - New York is seeking $3 billion that the federal government had committed to the Hudson River rail tunnel that New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie scrapped.

The Record newspaper reports Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand of New York has asked Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood to redirect the money to the Long Island Rail Road's East Side Access Project and the construction of the Second Avenue subway line.

Transportation officials in the Garden State are examining how to redirect as much as $1 billion in federal highway funding that had been pledged for the tunnel.

LaHood has said New Jersey will be required to repay up to $350million.

Christie cited cost overruns when he killed the project lastmonth.
