EDISON - A “Not My President’s Day” protest was held in Newark Monday to express frustrations with President Donald Trump.

The protest was one of many held across the country. Protesters gathered at the Seated Lincoln statue near the Essex County Courthouse.

Participants say they are worried about such topics as education, health care, the environment and immigration during the Trump administration.

“My family is Mexican,” says Cynthia Mellon. “He has rabid, racist, anti-Mexican people working with him, writing his policies.”

Other protesters say that they believe that the president’s efforts to restrict immigration in the United States will lead to discrimination.

“I’m not carrying around my citizenship on my forehead,” says Johanna Calle. “So the fact that immigrant communities are being targeted, it has a racist undertone to it.”

Protests were also held in Manhattan, Los Angeles, Austin and Chicago.
